Use your voice or text to respond to the AI character. They react naturally — defensive, awkward, emotional — just like real people.
Get a supportive "Behavioral Mirror" reflecting your speech patterns — not physical triggers. See your communication style, strengths, and areas to grow based on what you actually said.
Give students a structured way to rehearse real-life situations before they face them.
A 2-hour guided simulation track that takes youth from first introductions to mock behavioral interviews, ensuring they are professional and prepared for their first day on the job.
An interactive journey focused on self-advocacy, helping students rehearse high-anxiety moments like public speaking and asking for help before they face them in real life.
A restorative-justice-aligned path that teaches students how to de-escalate arguments and repair trust through realistic, low-risk AI simulations.
Instead of choosing from a pre-made list, students can describe a real-world situation they experienced — like a conflict at lunch or a misunderstanding with a friend — and SELChat™ creates a personalized practice simulation.
Rehearse the conversation privately so you're ready when it happens again.

Trusted by Professionals
Built in collaboration with school counselors and licensed therapists who work with students every day.
“I've worked with students who can recite exactly what they should say in a conflict — but freeze the moment it's real. SELChat is the first tool I've seen that actually bridges that gap. The scenarios feel genuine, not scripted, and students engage with them in a way they don't with traditional SEL worksheets.”
“What I appreciate most as a therapist is that SELChat doesn't tell students how to feel — it lets them practice navigating situations and discover their own patterns. The Behavioral Mirror in particular reflects back communication habits in a way that is honest but never shaming. That balance is very hard to get right, and they got it right.”
“The feedback is simple and nonjudgmental—students notice small habits like interrupting or rushing, and then actually try different responses. It's practical, not preachy, and students come away with something they can actually try.”
SELChat™ is a safe educational tool designed for guided practice — not therapy. Every scenario is crafted by educators and reviewed for age-appropriateness. Students practice in a controlled environment where mistakes become learning moments, not lasting consequences.

Hi, I'm Jonathan.
I'm a classroom teacher from Brooklyn, New York, and over the years I've seen firsthand how difficult it can be for students to put social skills into practice. Many know the “right” thing to say when they're calm in a classroom, but when they're faced with peer pressure, conflict, or an emotional situation, those strategies can be hard to access in the moment.
The idea for SELChat came during one of the many times I was sitting in a school guidance counselor's office. I watched counselors doing something they've always done — role-playing difficult conversations with students to help them prepare for real-life situations.
It made me think…
Students practice for math tests.
They practice for sports.
They rehearse for school plays.
Why don't we give them the chance to practice conversations?
What if students had a place where they could practice those conversations over and over again before they happened in real life?
Not by memorizing a script.
Not by reading a worksheet.
But by actually having the conversation.
That simple question became SELChat.
My goal was never to replace teachers, school counselors, or therapists. In fact, SELChat was built because I have so much respect for the work they do every day. I wanted to create another tool that gives students a safe place to build confidence through practice, so when those real moments arrive, they're a little more prepared.
I believe social skills are exactly that — skills.
And like any skill, they improve with practice.
