How Data Is Used in Clinical Settings
Transparency about what we store, what we don't, and how data is used when SELChat™ is deployed in clinical or counseling contexts.
1. What We Store
- Basic account information (name, email, username)
- Scenario interactions and responses
- Conversation transcripts from AI-powered practice sessions
- Progress and usage data (scenarios completed, time spent)
- Behavioral feedback and mirror analyses
2. What We DO NOT Store
- Medical records
- Diagnoses
- Therapy notes
- Insurance or billing data
- Sensitive health information
- Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined under HIPAA
Clinicians and users should not input any of the above into the platform. SELChat™ is not designed to handle health-related data.
3. Data Ownership
- Users and/or organizations control how they use the platform.
- SELChat™ does not claim ownership over client relationships or clinical decisions.
- Users may download their data at any time via the dashboard or Parent Portal.
- Users may request deletion of all their data at any time.
4. Data Use Purpose
- Data is used only to provide and improve the simulation experience.
- Data is never sold or used for advertising.
- Aggregated, anonymized data may be used to improve scenario quality and AI responses.
- No data is shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Privacy Alignment
Our data practices align with the following standards:
- COPPA — Children's Online Privacy Protection Act compliance for users under 13
- FERPA — Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act alignment for student data protection
- NY Education Law 2-d — Supplemental student data protections for New York schools
